Strength For Beginner / Intermediate
From slowing age related decline, to playing sport, running, or improving body composition – strength training is something everyone can benefit from in one form or another. Any kind of pushing or pulling against a resistance which challenges the muscles can be beneficial, such as weightlifting or bodyweight exercises.
Strength training has a range of benefits and is not only about building muscle. Some of the health benefits of resistance training include increased bone density, slowing of age related muscle loss (sarcopenia), stabilising and protecting joints from injury, improve posture and balance, aiding weight management, improved body composition and improved mood.
Muscle mass decreases approximately 3–8% per decade after the age of 30 and this rate of decline is higher after the age of 60, and even higher for women than men. Given that muscle mass in older adults is closely linked to health and longevity, it is really important that some form of strength training forms part of your regular routine.
My aim is to ‘demystify’ strength training and get you feeling confident in challenging your muscles in a safe and supportive environment. Learn how to use the gym equipment from a private studio space in Stoke Newington or Shoreditch.
For those who are already gym goers, but have hit a plateau or lack structure and accountability, then having a bespoke programme focused on progressive overload can be a really useful tool to keep you on track and progressing towards your training goals. If you have a PR in mind, or a specific lift you want to develop then we can focus your training around that.
